Spirulina, The Popular Superfood

Spirulina (spee-ruh-lee-nuh) is an ingredient that I use in my Green Superfood Powder and in my Raw Protein Blend. Spirulina is one of the more popular superfoods because of the possibility of numerous health benefits. When paired with other ingredients in my powders such as chlorella or pea protein, spirulina is a great, healthy source of nutrients and vitamins.

So, What is Spirulina?

Spirulina is a type of cyanobacteria or a blue-green, single-celled microbe that grows in freshwater and saltwater. Like plants, cyanobacteria can produce energy from a familiar process called photosynthesis. Spirulina has a 60% protein content and is full of vitamins. Fun fact, spirulina was actually consumed by the ancient Aztecs!
